Ice skating is very popular in Hungary every winter. Recently, a video of an elderly Hungarian couple ice-dancing at the City Park artificial ice rink has been seen around the world, reports Magyar Nemzet. Mara Patai and László Gombos are both 77 years old and have been dancing on the City Park artificial ice rink for ten years. Videos of the couple have been viewed by tens of millions of people on TikTok.
Metropol reports that Mara Patai has been skating since childhood, but had to give up the sport because of an ankle problem, so she hung up her skates for 40 years. When she retired, however, she decided to return to her passion and joined the City Park Ice Dance Group. László Gombos fell in love with skating at the age of ten, but he too stopped when he started to build his future.
He only took it up again when he lost his wife. “That is when Mara and I started dancing, and waltzing brought us together,” he recollected. The portal also reported that the relationship between Mara and László has deepened into a true friendship over the past ten years.

Now it is the perfect time to try skating, not just because of the lovely and inspiring elderly duo, but also because the Night of the Ice Rinks takes place across the country on January 20.
The event in Hungary will be made unforgettable with extended opening hours, great programs, music, and entertainment, writes Csodálatos Magyarország.
Inspired by the Night of Museums and the Night of Beaches, more than 35 venues across the country will take place in the initiative, with unique programs, games, and surprises in the ice rinks and ice halls.
The main venue of the event will again be the City Park Artificial Ice Rink in Budapest, where skaters will be able to enjoy hockey games and skating programs with extended opening hours from 4-8 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.-12 a.m. Moreover, delicious snacks, hot chocolate, and many other delicacies will be offered at the rink.
There will also be special events in several cities, including Győr, Veszprém (both in western Hungary) and Miskolc (northern Hungary).
