Mariann Vízkelety, former president of the Hungarian Civic Cooperation Association (MPEE), had passed away, the family informed on Monday.
They wrote: Mariann Vízkelety, former State Secretary for Public Administration and Justice, Prime Minister’s Commissioner, member of the board of trustees of several NGOs, former president of the Hungarian Civic Cooperation Association, died on Sunday at the age of 67 after a long and serious illness. Her funeral will be arranged later, they added.
Dr. Vízkelety was a member of the board of trustees at the Friends of Hungary Foundation, publishers of our news portal, Hungary Today. The president of our foundation, E. Sylvester Vizi, had remembered our former trustee in a personal message. He stated that –
“It was with deep sadness that members of the Friends of Hungary Foundation and its supporters around the world have received the sad news that after a long illness Mariann Vízkelety had passed away. It is a great loss for me personally, as we were able to work very well together.
She was loved and respected for her personality as well as her work, among Hungarians around the world and by her colleagues at home. Her selfless work in the board of trustees of our Friends of Hungary Foundation is irreplaceable. We send our sincere condolences to her family members loved ones.”
The Hungarian Civic Cooperation Association has issued the following statement:
“Dr. Mariann Vízkelety has been a member of the Hungarian Civic Cooperation Association since its inception, serving as its President from January 2019 to December 2023. We thank her for her dedication and commitment to our association.
Her life’s journey was guided by her commitment to God, Family, Country and unconditional love, which she learned from her dear parents at home and passed on to her children, friends and colleagues. On behalf of our Presidency and our colleagues, we express our sincere condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family! Her memory will always remain with us!”
Later, from 1998 to 2002, she worked in the Prime Minister’s Office as Head of the Secretariat for Economic and Social Policy. From 2004 to 2010, she was Senior Technical Adviser in the Office of the National Assembly. From 2010 to 2012, she was appointed State Secretary for Public Administration at the Ministry of National Development, and from summer 2012 to spring 2015, she was Deputy President for Legal Affairs and Management of the Central Statistical Office.
From 1 April 2015 she was responsible for judicial relations as Minister of State for Justice and Human Rights. In 2019 she was elected the new president of the Association of the Hungarian Civic Cooperation (Magyar Polgári Együttműködés Egyesület – MPEE). She also worked as Member of the Council of the Hundreds and on the Board of Trustees of the Széll Kálmán Foundation.
