At the beginning of December, the construction project of the Paks Danube Bridge reached a spectacular moment, as the left bank of the bridge was completed, captured by the crew of Magyar Építők on site. Despite the occasional snowfall, everything went according to plan, reports Világgazdaság.
The middle span of the bridge is scheduled to be finished in February.
In a month’s time, it will be possible to cross the entire bridge, consisting of two floodplain bridges alongside the river bridge.
The construction of the bridge between Paks and Kalocsa has been progressing much faster than expected, shortening a 70-kilometer detour once vehicles can take possession of it. This will reduce the journey time between Kalocsa and the M6 motorway and between Kalocsa and Paks to approximately 15 minutes.
The new Danube bridge will be the twentieth crossing of the Hungarian Danube section and is expected to be finished by Duna Aszfalt Zrt. by summer 2024. Construction started in February 2021, and the bridge is a classic giant project: it will be 946 meters long, with an extensive road network. The total cost of the project is HUF 92 billion (EUR 242 million).
After two unsuccessful tenders, the selection of the designer for the Kalocsa-Paks Danube bridge was successful on the third attempt. On May 27, 2020, it was announced that Duna Aszfalt Kft. would carry out the construction phase of the development.
