Economist and risk management expert, Gábor Horváth was appointed as President of the Fiscal Council with a mandate from January 2024. Mr. Horváth’s appointment is for a six-year term.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Sándor Palace, attended by President Katalin Novák, Finance Minister Mihály Varga, Minister of Economic Development Márton Nagy and László Windisch, the President of the State Audit Office of Hungary.
At the event the Head of State awarded Árpád Kovács, the current outgoing President of the Fiscal Council, the Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit (Civilian Class). Árpád Kovács is also the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Friends of Hungary Foundation, the publisher of our news portals Hungary Today and Ungarn Heute.
Minister Varga laudated Kovács, highlighting the seamless integration of theoretical knowledge and practical application throughout his tenure. Kovács, who assumed the position in 2012, brought considerable domestic and international professional experience to the role.
Gábor Horváth, the newly appointed head of the Fiscal Council, brings 22 years of expertise in risk management, including macroeconomic analysis, bank group management, asset and liability management, and bank due diligence. His experience encompasses nearly 25 years of monitoring the development of the Hungarian and regional economies, public finances and debt.
