An Advent craft fair with around 100 exhibitors opened on Saturday in the lobby of the Castle Garden Bazaar (Várkert Bazár). The event will be open to the public during the Advent weekends until December 17.
Visitors can meet different exhibitors and artists every weekend, hence it is worth visiting the fair several times.
“One gives what one can (…) one must always give,” Anita Herczegh, wife of former President János Áder, chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Regőczi Foundation and patron of the event quoted writer Sándor Márai, at the opening of the fair on Saturday. As she emphasized,
the arts and crafts fair opening in Castle Garden Bazaar offers a variety of “treasures” for those looking for something special and unique.
The objects on display are made with great care and professional dedication, praising the taste and handiwork of Hungarian artists.
At the traditional craft fair, visitors can choose from the works of the most outstanding Hungarian craftsmen, said Krisztina Sikota, Deputy Director General for Tourism and Culture of the Castle District. She stressed that during the fair there will also be workshops where visitors can make various souvenirs and meet the craftsmen in person.
The Deputy Director General also added that thanks to the National Hauszmann Program, this year visitors could enjoy the fully renovated Csikós Courtyard, home to the outdoor Advent events of the Buda Castle Quarter.
Artisan Rita Szöllősi, fashion and jewellery designer, and art curator of the fair, noted: “In the 1800s, the organization of an arts and crafts fair was popular in Hungary.” The renovation of the Museum of Applied Arts, originally hosting the fair, began in 2018, and since then the event has been held in the Castle Garden Bazaar.
