Several trains passing through Hungary are also affected by the strike on German railways, informed the Communication Directorate of the Hungarian railway company MÁV Zrt.
As they wrote, the German railway company (Deutsche Bahn) informed MÁV that the rail strike in Germany will last from Wednesday evening 10 p.m. until Thursday evening 6 p.m., and therefore significant disruptions and longer travel times can be expected on the German rail network in long-distance and regional traffic.
Due to the strike, several Railjet express trains from Tatabánya will only run to Salzburg, Austria, and on Thursday the Metropol EuroNight from Berlin will only run from Rzepin, Poland. On Thursday, the Hungária EuroCity will run to Dresden, but passengers will have to change trains in Prague, while on the return journey the Hungária EuroCity will only run from Prague. On Friday, the Hungária EuroCity will only run to Prague, they said, adding that the Tatabánya-Munich and Munich-Tatabánya trains will run without restrictions.
Tickets already purchased for the return journey to or from Germany can be returned free of charge or used on the route indicated on the ticket.
Tickets can be redeemed or validated for another date at international ticket offices, or in the case of tickets purchased online, at informacio@mav-start.hu.
When buying a new ticket, the Hungarian railway company can only provide offers that are still available. If only a more expensive ticket can be offered, the passenger can apply to the customer service for a fair refund of the difference between the two prices, they said.
Deutsche Bahn advises passengers to postpone their journey if possible and recommends that they check the websites of Deutsche Bahn and Austrian Railways (ÖBB) and the information interfaces and customer services of MÁV before traveling to Germany.
