Balatonalmádi Transforms Into the “Town of Colorful Steps”

Thanks to the investments of the Veszprém-Balaton European Capital of Culture Program, the emotional attachment of the people living here and the tourist attractiveness of the region are also growing, the Minister of Regional Development said in Balatonalmádi (northern side of Lake Balaton) on Saturday.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the inauguration of the renewed staircase of the Pannónia Cultural Center and Library in Balatonalmádi, Tibor Navracsics stressed that the lives of Balatonalmádi, Balatonfüred and Veszprém are inextricably linked. Therefore, the “developments of the three towns should also be connected.” Together, the three towns can be an excellent platform for investors and services as a unified region, he said. He added that the investments would create a creative industries hub in the area.

The Minister praised the Balatonalmádi, the Town of Colorful Steps program, saying that the colorful steps are a tourist attraction for the town and also strengthen the identity of the people living here. Gábor Czombó, the initiator of the Balatonalmádi, the Town of Colorful Steps program, reported that 9 stairs have been renovated throughout the town, and the stairs of the cultural center have been covered with mosaic. The colors will make the stairs of the town a tourist artwork, he said.

Balatonalmádi, the Town of Colorful Steps program is a project within the framework of the Veszprém-Balaton European Capital of Culture Program. The project was dreamed up by the Balatonalmádi Aranyhíd Polgári Egyesület (Golden Bridge Civic Association). The association’s plan is to make the initiation more than a once-only project. They would like to ensure that this artistic initiative will continue for years to come by calling for proposals from young artists nationwide.
