Following the accident at the National Theater on Friday, Attila Vidnyánszky, the theater’s general director, has resigned, reported Magyar Nemzet.
Following the unfortunate accident on Friday evening, Director Attila Vidnyánszky has resigned from his post, acknowledging his responsibility as the manager. He informed Minister of Culture and Innovation János Csák of his decision.
On Friday, Júlia Szász and Lajos Ottó Horváth, both actors of the National Theater, had an accident during the performance of Romeo and Juliet. They were immediately taken to hospital and the performance was interrupted. The accident occurred during the performance, in a part of the set not visible to the audience. Before the unfortunate incident, Lajos Ottó Horváth was holding his colleague Julia Szász on a small balcony. The well-known actor allegedly became unexpectedly dizzy, causing both of them to fall over the railing and then from several meters onto the stage. Both actors required surgery and their condition is serious but stable and not life-threatening.
The official page of Semmelweis University, where both victims are being treated, announced today that the two actors are doing better. As they write, Júlia Szász and Lajos Otto Horváth were taken to the Traumatology Clinic of Semmelweis University on Friday with limb injuries and were operated on the same day. The National Theater actors are doing better and are in stable condition, but have not yet been allowed to leave the clinic.
