On Tuesday, the Maklár plant of Robert Bosch Automotive Steering Kft, a manufacturer of steering gears for passenger cars and trucks, held a press tour and a showcase on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the company’s founding. The company’s managing director said at the event that the construction of a new logistics center will mark the completion of a multi-year development series worth HUF 52 billion (EUR 137.5 million) at the Bosch plant in Maklár (northern Hungary).
Managing Director Michael Zink said that the facility, intended to consolidate and make the logistics services currently leased more efficient, was scheduled to be handed over this year, but due to unfavorable market conditions and increased costs of the project,
construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
He said that although the new building’s original function is to be the logistics center of the factory, the facility could also be converted into a production hall, including the possibility of future capacity expansion at the Maklár site.
He noted that
the company, 20 years old this year, has become a leader and one of the largest employers in the region.
The 70,000 square meter Bosch plant in Maklár plays an important role not only in the production of next-generation electric steering gear, but also in the development of steering columns and shafts. Around 6.5 million products and parts are manufactured every year, meaning that on average, a product rolls off the production line every three seconds, he said.
He added that the company’s two sites in Maklár and Eger (both in northern Hungary) produce steering systems for more than 50 vehicle manufacturers, including premium and electric vehicle brands. In addition, 40 engineers work here with the world’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers to develop steering shafts and columns for buses and trucks, and the team is also responsible for prototype production, he explained. Zink also said that
Robert Bosch Automotive Steering Kft. currently employs around 1,700 people and is constantly expanding.
The company achieved a revenue of HUF 295 billion (EUR 780 million) in 2022, 37 percent more than the previous year. Moreover, it spent HUF 8.6 billion (EUR 18 million) on research and development last year, 10 percent more than in 2021.
