The Israeli national football team will play their home matches of the European Championship qualifying series at the Pancho Arena in Felcsút (central Hungary) in November.
The Israelis will play against Switzerland on November 15 and Romania on November 18. The matches will be organized by the Israeli Football Association (IFA), who will be responsible for ticket sales as well, as spectators will be able to attend the matches. Meanwhile, the Hungarian Football Federation will provide all the professional assistance needed for the smooth preparation and organization of the tournaments.
The Israeli national team will not be able to play in their home matches due to the armed conflict between Palestine and Israel.
“In the current situation, it was not a question for the Hungarian Football Federation to come to the aid of the UEFA and the Israeli federation – and thus their current opponents – and offer the Hungarian sports facilities as a neutral venue at their request, hence contributing to the national team’s ability to host the matches in the predetermined competition period,” the federation highlighted in its statement.
Balázs Orbán, the prime minister’s political director, stressed in connection with the news that the opposition would do well to remain silent and not label the Hungarian government as antisemitic.
“In light of the challenging security situation faced by Jewish people worldwide, the Israeli national football team will play their upcoming matches in Felcsút, Hungary, at the stadium of the football academy established by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán,” Balázs Orbán wrote in an X (formerly Twitter) post on Wednesday.
As he put it:
This location will provide them with a secure environment for preparation and play. The liberals, who have long falsely accused the Hungarian right of antisemitism, would be wise to remain silent from now on and forever.”
