Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán knows how to stand up for his interests, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Russian TV channel Rossiya 1 after the two held talks in Beijing. The two leaders previously held bilateral talks during the One Belt, One Road Initiative (BRI) Summit in the Chinese Capital.
Viktor Orbán belongs to a small group of European politicians who know how to defend their interests, and he does it persistently, consistently, and in my opinion quite tactfully”.
“We do not always have the same views by a long way, and we often stand on different platforms, but that does not prevent us from talking and finding solutions to certain issues and problems,” the Russian head of state said. The remarks came on Tuesday, after Viktor Orbán held bilateral talks with Vladimir Putin in Beijing.
The One Belt, One Road initiative could give a new impetus to the world economy by significantly increasing connectivity between peoples and countries not only in terms of transport but also in political, commercial and cultural terms, Chinese President Xi Jinping said in Beijing on Wednesday, opening the BRI Summit. Representatives from more than 130 countries and several international organizations have arrived in China for the conference, with Hungary represented by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Launched ten years ago, the One Belt, One Road – also known as the new Silk Road – has led to more than 3,000 cooperation projects, billions of dollars in direct investment and the creation of more than 400,000 jobs, according to Chinese estimates.
