Chinese car manufacturer BYD is to start selling its pure electric vehicles in Hungary, the first in the Central and Eastern European regions. The cars can already be ordered and are distributed by two partner dealerships: Wallis Motor and Duna Autó (Danube Car). They plan to build a network of at least 20 traders within two years, reports Világgazdaság.
Michael Shu, Managing Director of BYD Europe, said: “It is of special importance for the manufacturer that their electric cars are now officially available in Hungary.
BYD has deep-rooted experience in Hungary through its BYD eBus business and the Komárom (northern Hungary) plant,”
Shu underlined.
BYD believes that the launch of its competitively priced, state-of-the-art electric vehicles in Hungary could be a turning point for sustainable transport, he added.
The brand is launching three models in the Hungarian market, combining advanced electric vehicle technology and environmentally friendly solutions. All new vehicles are covered by a six-year or 150,000 kilometer warranty, while the energy storage battery is covered by an eight-year or 200,000 kilometer warranty. In addition,
the company provides 24-hour roadside assistance service and has started to develop a nationwide service network.
BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of plug-in electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles (New Energy Vehicle, NEV), entered the European passenger car market in 2022. The brand has already gone on sale in 18 European countries.
In China, as many new cars are sold in a day as in Hungary in a year. In September, 743,000 NEV models were sold in the country: an average of 52,000 a day in the second week, 64,000 a day in the third week, and 128,000 a day at the end of the month. It is worth adding that last year, 111,500 cars were sold on the Hungarian market as a whole. Based on previous information, BYD sold 6,887 million vehicles last year, with a significant increase in sales of 93 percent. The manufacturer expects a strong increase in car sales this year.
The AutoWallis Group has reported dynamic growth of nearly 50 percent in vehicle sales, with significant organic growth, but even more dynamic thanks to the acquisition of Renault Hungary last year. Under the new partnership agreement, AutoWallis Distribution will provide a range of services to BYD Hungary, the manufacturer’s Hungarian subsidiary.
