The construction of the BMW plant in Debrecen (eastern Hungary) is proceeding as planned. The number of people who can now call themselves employees of the Debrecen factory is approaching 1,000. This might sound surprising as the plant will not start series production until 2025, however, it is not extraordinary because there are many tasks to be completed before production starts. The number of employees will gradually rise to 1,500 before the start-up.
As Magyar Nemzet reports, those involved in production will have to familiarize themselves well in advance with the tasks they will have to perform in the plant. The company’s website says they are looking for workers with secondary and higher education qualifications for hundreds of jobs. Some of them will join the production team, but they are also recruiting for health and safety jobs.
The jobs on offer include logistics, production planning, quality assurance, IT, maintenance, powertrain specialists for the cars of the future, as well as opportunities in finance, legal, communications, and human resources.
All of them need a conversational level of English (and of course Hungarian). If you also speak German, you will have an advantage in the recruitment process.
A special group of employees with a strong link to the company is the team of 100 apprentices who started their studies this year in the factory’s dual vocational training program. The young people come from Debrecen’s technical schools. They will learn the general skills at their secondary school, while the more specialized knowledge of car manufacturing, including BMW, will be acquired at their future workplace. This means not only that they get their knowledge from the most authentic place, but also when they graduate, they will already have a job.
Speaking to the Budapest Business Journal about the 2025 series production launch, President & CEO of BMW Manufacturing Hungary Ltd., Hans-Peter Kemser, explained what the new BMW model will look like from 2025,
with a car scheduled to roll off the production line every two minutes.
The Neue Klasse model will create a completely new interactive relationship between the vehicle and its driver. The iDrive vehicle control technology virtually turns the car into a digital experience.

The Debrecen plant will be the first unit within the BMW Group to be designed and built according to the iFactory concept from the initial phase. Its main pillars are: efficiency, precision, extreme flexibility, green sustainability, resource efficiency and recycling, as well as the use of digitization, including artificial intelligence and virtualization.
