Dominik Szoboszlai’s first month at his new club Liverpool has been a good one. He scored his first goal and was voted the best player in two games. Moreover, in his last match he produced a sprint that gave him his second best performance ever. From a few meters behind he overcame the Portuguese Pedro Neto, who headed the ball towards the Liverpool goal.
As Világgazdaság writes, this sprint is not a common occurrence on football pitches:
Dominik Szoboszlai ran 36.76 kilometers per hour during the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.
According to sports statistician Simon Brundish, since accurate data has been collected in the Premier League, only once has a higher figure been recorded. Manchester City defender Kyle Walker sprinted at 37.31 kph in the 2022/2023 season.

The 22-year-old footballer’s remarkable performances have not gone unnoticed. Liverpool’s website has reported that Szoboszlai has been named the Liverpool Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month for August. After receiving the award voted by the fans, he said:”I’m just doing my thing, helping the team and happy that I can do my best. (…) “I think there’s always more to come,” he continued. “I can also improve a lot and also try to look to the players who are here almost seven years or even more, or a little bit less here. Trying to take some advice from them and just continue like this.”

Along with Szoboszlai, the other Hungarian top English flight player Milos Kerkez is also breaking records in the Premier League. It was reported that no one has sprinted more than the Hungarian national team player this season.

Not only Szoboszlai and Kerkez, but the Hungarian national team is in excellent form, leading their group in the European Championship qualifiers, ahead of Serbia. The team last played a 1-1 draw in a preparation match against the Czech Republic at Puskás Arena in Budapest. Speaking after the match, Szoboszlai said that they had learned a lesson from the game and were preparing for their next game against Serbia with the aim of winning and remaining top of the group.
The match will be played on October 14, and if they win, the Hungarian national team will virtually qualify for the continental tournament.
