Defense Development Benefits the Whole Country, Says Commissioner

MTI-Hungary Today 2023.09.20.

Defense-based research and development is aimed at promoting the development not only of the army but of the whole country, said Brigadier General Imre Porkoláb, Ministerial Commissioner for Defense Innovation, at the NATO DIANA Innovation Week organized by the Defense Innovation Research Institute (VIKI) and the Ministry of Defense in Budapest.

Imre Porkoláb, who is also the Vice-Chairman of NATO DIANA, presented the Hungarian research and development workshops and their work to mainly European investors and defense professionals. He highlighted that beyond the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and the production of certain defense equipment,

the strategic objective is to produce added value that can be used in other fields, and it is therefore no coincidence that all the country’s research and development centers have the opportunity to participate in various projects.

Examples include weapons research and development, the development of remote-controlled and self-driving vehicles, robotics and its testing, biotechnology research, and materials testing, focusing on the long-term results  in fields such as human health and environment.

Another important objective is to involve small and medium-sized enterprises with added value in the cooperation, as he believes that there is further potential in the problem-solving and adaptability of Hungarian researchers.
