Three individual events, men’s and women’s 4x100m will be contested by Hungarians on Friday, the seventh day of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. In the evening, four finals will be held.
In today’s morning’s program, European U20 champion György Herczeg will compete in the men’s javelin and Fédra Fekete in the women’s high jump qualification. In the evening, Bianka Kéri will compete in the women’s 800m semi-finals, while the Hungarian relay team will be represented in both the men’s and women’s 4x100m heats.
During the evening, the champions will be crowned in four events: men’s and women’s 200m, women’s triple jump and women’s javelin.
On Thursday evening, Dutchwoman Femke Bol won the women’s 400m hurdles with a great performance, clocking 51.70 seconds.

In the men’s event, Jamaica’s Antonio Watson became the world champion with a time of 44.22 seconds.

Medals were awarded in the women’s hammer throw, with Camryn Rogers of Canada taking home the world title, thus a Canadian champion was crowned in both the men’s and women’s hammer throws.

In the men’s long jump, Olympic champion Miltiades Tentoglu of Greece won the final with his last jump, beating Wayne Pinnock of Jamaica by two centimeters, with a length of 8.52.

There were also Hungarian entries on Thursday’s day. Ferenc Soma Kovács finished in 21st place in his heat, with his best result of the year, but did not qualify for the final of the men’s 5000m. “I would have liked to have done a little bit better in the time, the 5000m is difficult because it is easy to slip. It is not my strongest event, I consider myself more of a 1500m runner,” Kovács, who has been accepted to Harvard, told after the race. “At the end I tried to overtake the boy who had been running ahead of me for a long time, and I finally succeeded, which was also thanks to the energy of the crowd,” he concluded.
The 19-year-old runner won the bronze medal in the U20 European Championships in the 3000m steeplechase three weeks ago.

In the 35km walk on Thursday morning, Hungarian athlete Viktoria Madarász finished 16th and Rita Récsei 22nd. Maria Perez of Spain was the women’s world champion in this race, while Álvaro Martin of Spain was the men’s world champion. Hungarian Bence Venyercsán finished in 30th place.
