Hungary Today 2023.08.24.

As the opening event of the Synagogues Week series of events, the Cholent Festival, which has been very popular for years, will be held again on Sunday, 27 August. 7,000 portions of the traditional Jewish stew will be cooked for the event from 350 kilos of beans and hundreds of kilos of meat – reports turizmus.com

Perhaps the best-known traditional Jewish dish is prepared in many different ways; this year, in addition to Hungarian and Israeli cholent, you can also try the bean dish cooked according to the recipes of Hungarian celebrities.

The 7,000 portions of cholent are made from 350 kg of beans, 160 kg of gersli, 80 kg of onions, 7 kg of paprika, 300 kg of beef, 300 kg of goose and 5,600 boiled eggs.

Preparations began about a week before the event, and included a sorting of ingredients by the mashgiach (kosher supervisor). The night cooking is done by 15 people – with religious supervision.

The event will be hosted by Áron Kovács, who will also sing. The artistic director is Prima Prize winner István Cseh.

Judit Hidas, author, will be in conversation with Réka Farkasházi, Linda Király and Tamara Cserháti.

At 7:30 PM, Károly Nyári will entertain the audience with a Sinatra concert.

The popular artist will perform Frank Sinatra’s evergreen hits in his concert My Way, performed by the 25-member Budapest Jazz Symphony Chamber Orchestra and the Budapest Jazz Orchestra, which he founded.
