A human smuggler drove into a house wall in the center of Mórahalom in Csongrád-Csanád county, south Hungary, on Friday evening, damaging the building’s gas pipe, the police announced on their website.
The smuggler was driving a van with Hungarian registration plates, in which he was carrying 21 border crossers. After entering the center of the town, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the wall of a house. According to information at the scene, five people were slightly injured and one seriously injured in the accident.
The crash resulted in a gas leak, forcing residents to leave the surrounding buildings, but after the gas was shut off in the damaged building, they were able to return to their homes.
The van’s wheels broke off and the front end of the van was crushed. Not only the building but also the fence was damaged on impact. “I heard a huge bang, I immediately ran out to the street to check and then I saw a van had crashed into my neighbor’s house. I saw a lot of police cars, I saw them taking out the illegal immigrants, there were a lot of them,” said one of the residents, reports Hirado.hu.
During the weekend, another van carrying migrants has been involved in an accident in Mórahalom as well.
This time a minibus with German plates overturned into a ditch. The vehicle was carrying 13 migrants and a Serbian trafficker, who was arrested by police.
Recently, accidents caused by people smugglers have become more frequent. A minibus overturned shortly after midnight last Thursday near Ásotthalom, south Hungary, near the Serbian border, on the main road 55. The police wanted to check the vehicle, but the driver did not stop at the signal and drove on. He lost control of the car on a bend and the accident happened.
It turned out that 19 illegal migrants were hiding in the cargo hold. One border crosser died at the scene and four people were seriously injured.
The driver, a Russian national, tried to flee after the accident, but was quickly found in a bush and was prosecuted for human trafficking.
A few days ago, action movie scenes were also played out in Budapest when police tried to stop a car on the Petőfi Bridge. The driver did not stop here either, and the car chase began. In two minutes, the officers caught the man, who was hiding three Turkish border crossers in his car.
