Wizz Air is temporarily canceling some of its autumn flights due to mandatory engine checks, the company announced. Negotiations are still ongoing, hence it is not yet known which flights will be canceled.
They said the airline’s partner Pratt & Whitney is carrying out an expedited inspection of some engines and that the inspection will also affect some Wizz Air aircraft. The mandatory inspection has forced Wizz Air to make changes to its schedule, forcing it to cancel some flights between September and October.
Passengers on the affected flights will be offered either the choice of re-booking on alternative flights, a 120% credit on their WIZZ account, or a full refund of the ticket price using the original payment method.
If passengers have booked their tickets through an online intermediary or travel agency, the airline advises them to contact the agency or website to make changes. The airline also recommends checking spam folders for emails about possible schedule changes.
The A321neo is the largest aircraft in the Airbus A320 family, offering unrivaled range and performance. The new-generation engines and Sharklet wingtips reduce noise by almost 50 percent, and fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 20 percent compared to the previous type.
It was stressed that the airline has no control over the events, but Wizz Air apologizes for any inconvenience caused.
Summer is resulting in excellent passenger numbers so far for the Hungarian airline. Wizz Air flew more than six million passengers in July, up 27 percent compared to the previous year’s same period. At the same time, the load factor of the airline continued to improve, up 5.1 basis points year-on-year to 94.9 percent. Growth of number of passengers continues to outpace capacity growth, with the latter up by 20% since July 2022. At full capacity, the low-cost carrier can now seat 6.36 million passengers.
