Illegal Migrants Are Getting Increasingly Violent Near the Border

The Hungarian government will do everything to ensure that the European Union follows the well-established Hungarian position on migration policy, the Prime Minister’s chief advisor on internal security said on Thursday morning’s M1 news channel program, reports Hirado.hu.

György Bakondi recalled that in recent times, an increasing number of acts of violence have been linked to the strong illegal migration. One of these was the incident near the Hungarian-Serbian border, when Afghan gangs allegedly clashed on Serbian territory. There have been fatalities in the fights, and migrants are now also firing on police officers, according to reports.

One person was killed and two injured in Monday night’s shootout in Hajdújárás (Hajdukovo, Serbia) when migrants fired shots near the Hungarian border, reports Hirado.hu. This time, migrants clashed in a small street, shooting indiscriminately at everything and everyone, both between houses and in gardens. A security camera caught locals fleeing into houses, barricading themselves in and many lying on the ground to avoid being hit by bullets coming from all directions. The fight lasted at least two hours. According to locals, it all started when an allegedly injured migrant was brought out of the forest by his companions lying on a ladder towards the highway, and about 10 minutes later, machine guns were brought out and the migrants started shooting at each other. It is reported that they even shot at the police officers who arrived on the scene.

organized crime groups are now trying to bring not only migrants but also firearms into the European Union.

He said that while Western Europe is also suffering from the violence of migrants who have already entered the EU – citing the migrant riots in France and the attacks in Germany – the EU wants to speed up the distribution of migrants according to quotas in view of the upcoming European Parliament elections.

In June, European Union interior ministers reached a majority agreement on sharing responsibility for the care of migrants and refugees. Under this agreement, each EU Member State would be responsible for a certain number of people, but would not necessarily have to take them in. Countries that are not willing to take in illegal migrants and refugees arriving in the EU could help financially – around €22,000 per person – or with equipment or staff.

State Secretary Bence Rétvári stressed that if Brussels’ plan for mandatory resettlement quotas were to be implemented, “we would be surrounded by tens of thousands of illegal migrants who would constantly demand to be allowed into the European Union.” He pointed out that in this case, Hungary would have to carry out procedures in the tens of thousands at its southern border, and the mandatory quota would be a magnet for illegal migrants. This is why borders must be protected and quotas rejected, the politician emphasized.

Confirming the Hungarian government’s position, György Bakondi underlined that there is clear evidence that migrants arriving illegally in Europe do not represent a labor force, but a threat. He added that Hungary will neither accept nor implement this “migrant pact” and will do its utmost during its coming EU Presidency in the second half of 2024 to ensure that the Hungarian position on migration is put to the fore.
