The Paks nuclear power plant reduced its output on Thursday due to the rising temperature of the Danube.
The power plant said on its website that the water temperature of the Danube reached 29.72 degrees Celsius at the measurement section of the plant, so from 16:30, a total of 240 megawatts of load was reduced on units 2, 3 and 4.
In the information about the water temperature measurement published on its website (now deleted), the plant refers to the 2001 Ministry of the Environment decree on radioactive contamination of air and water from the use of nuclear energy, which states that
the temperature of the receiving water must not exceed 30 degrees Celsius at any point on the 500 meter-section downstream of the point of discharge.
It is also reported that the internal rules of the nuclear power plant set an intervention limit of 29.5 degrees Celsius, which, if reached, requires a reduction of power output by 0.1 degree Celsius at a rate of 80 megawatts per degree Celsius until the water temperature falls below the limit.
