Hungarian cyclist Kata Blanka Vas has won the sprint heat of the eighth stage of the Giro d’Italia Donne 2023 road cycling race.
After a rest day on Friday, the route cycled was 125.7 kilometers from Nuoro to Sassari on Saturday in 38 degrees Celsius. The 21-year-old Hungarian champion of SD Worx was involved in a breakaway attempt in the last 50 kilometers and then again near the finish, but when she saw that she could not break away, so she tactically stopped pushing.

In the chase, the Hungarian cyclist was well positioned in the group of contenders, and in the uphill final kilometers she was in the lead group. From here, she also took off in the last 100 meters and won by a bike length ahead of American champion Chloe Dygert and German champion Liane Lippert.
In the last three weeks, Kata Blanka Vas has won a stage at the Tour de Suisse Women, and then won gold in both the time trial and the field event at the Hungarian Championships.

The cyclist said in an interview that
she was very happy, and that she had not expected to win in the sprint race.
She also revealed that she had no water left for the last half hour in the sweltering heat, but she had received refreshments from a teammate. She also stressed that she was trusted by her team, SD Worx, which helped her along the way.
The Giro d’Italia Donne 2023 finished on Sunday with the 126.85 kilometer stage between Sassari and Olbia. In the final stage, Vas finished 11th and 43rd overall, while Dutchwoman Annemiek van Vleuten defended her title.
