According to her post on social media, Judit Varga, incumbent Minister of Justice overseeing EU affairs, had a meeting with Georgia’s Foreign Minister, Ilia Darchiashvili, who, she says, is one of the key figures in the development of Hungarian-Georgian relations.
She stated that Georgia shares the values of both the Hungarian government and the European Union, and that it is important that the two countries continue their successful cooperation in the future.
She also noted, that “For us, there is no question that Georgia belongs in the EU.”
Archil Talakvadze, Vice-Speaker of Georgia’s Parliament, said that “we appreciate the strong support of Hungary at our EU integration path.” The meeting was dedicated to the deliberation on bilateral cooperation and the European future of Georgia, according to the official statement of the institution.
After the meeting, he continued by saying that “the support of Hungary is highly positive and crucial and we value the position of our Hungarian friends they have regarding Georgia. In fact, Europe and true friends of Georgia witness the progress that our country has achieved and give due evaluation to the reforms we have undertaken.
Georgia is a reliable partner to Europe in the region and providing the bilateral relations and the progress we manifest, Georgia deserves EU candidate status.”
