Logistics-Sector-Boom Brings Employment for 300 Thousand

The logistics sector employs about 300,000 people in Hungary and last year it transported 300 million tons of goods. The sector’s production value increased by 50 percent in 2022, exceeding HUF 5,500 billion (EUR 14.3 B), State Secretary for Bilateral Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFA) Tamás Menczer said in Debrecen (the capital of Hungary’s Northern Great Plain region in the East) on Thursday – reports MTI.

The State Secretary was speaking at the presentation of the new 5,100-square-meter warehouse complex of the Trans-Sped logistics company.

Debrecen-based Trans-Sped, a family business founded 33 years ago, employing 900 people with a turnover of nearly HUF 33 billion last year, was called an exemplary success by Tamás Menczer.

He announced that under the agreement with the company, Trans-Sped will set up six new logistics centers between 2017 and 2023, three in Debrecen, one each in Nagytarcsa (village in Pest county, Budapest metropolitan area), Környe and Tata (a village and a town in Komárom-Esztergom county).

The total value of the investment will be close to HUF 8 billion (EUR 20.76 M), creating 270 new jobs.The government is providing HUF 2.4 (EUR 6.24 M) billion in non-refundable aid for the development, he added.

Tamás Menczer pointed out that since 2014, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been pursuing a foreign policy focused on foreign trade and that Hungary is becoming an increasingly popular investment destination for foreign investors.

He explained this by the fact that Hungary has a unique political stability and economic stability in Europe.In the latter, he stressed, in addition to low taxes and good infrastructure, the hard work and talent of the Hungarian people is an outstanding aspect.

He added that the result of this work is that

last year, 6.5 billion euros (some 2,600 billion forints) were invested in Hungary; 48 percent of the investments come from the East, 42 percent from the West, and 10 percent are Hungarian, which indicates a balanced investment.

László Pósán (Fidesz), Member of Parliament for the region,

recalled the early 1990s, when even getting from Debrecen to Budapest was a “logistical challenge”. At the time, the city organized the Accessibility Conferences, whose main initiator was Zsolt Fülöp,

the founding owner of the Trans-Sped group of companies, who has since built up one of the country’s most important transport and logistics businesses, the politician underlined.
