French National Rally party leader Jordan Bardella wants to liquidate the debt before the end of the year, wrote the French magazine Le Point.

According to the article, the aim for the party is to pre-empt any accusations of Russian interference in its operations. The French National Rally is still 6 million euros in debt from a loan taken out in 2014 with the Czech-Russian bank First Czech Russian Bank (FCRB).

Party President Jordan Bardella is said to have decided to repay the entire loan in one go, before the end of the year, although it was intended to be repaid over the next five years. The party is banking on the payment of 10.2 million euros from the public subsidy based on the results of next autumn’s legislative elections.

Marine Le Pen had already been singled out during the debate between the two rounds of the presidential election by Emmanuel Macron, who accused her of “depending on Russian power” and that Russia was her “banker”.

According to reports, the party is expected to turn to the Hungarian bank MKB, which had already financed its 2022 presidential campaign. In March 2022 presidential candidate Marine Le Pen received a EUR 10.7 million loan for her campaign from Hungary’s MKB Bank.
