No Tragedy Big Enough for the EU to Change Its Migration Policy, Warns Foreign Minister

MTI-Hungary Today 2023.07.05.

The events in France show the failure of Western European social integration efforts, as it has become clear that it is impossible to integrate large numbers of illegal migrants from other cultures, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó emphasized at a session of the National Assembly.

In his address to Parliament, the Minister stressed that “there may be or may have been people in Europe who have lived under the illusion that social integration efforts in Western Europe can be successful. Well, if they turned on the television in recent days and watched the news from France, I think that vain hope has quickly turned to disillusionment.”

He pointed out that in many countries “parallel societies” have emerged, and in many cases the silent majority live in terror. He added that

no tragedy seems to be enough to bring Brussels to its senses. The tragedies in the Mediterranean, the accidents that have killed people, the riots in the French cities, the thousands of cars set on fire are not enough.”

Fact

Riots in France have been ongoing for days after a police officer shot a teenager, Nahel M. during a police traffic stop. The violent crowd set fires on the streets, and clashed with police. During the protests, a suburban Paris mayor’s home was attacked by rioters who fired rockets at his fleeing wife and children, breaking her leg and injuring one of the children.

Péter Szijjártó underlined that the people’s clear expectation of Brussels is that the “well-paid European bureaucrats” should protect the continent’s population and borders, stop migration and finally dismantle the business model of people smugglers. “In contrast, the European bureaucracy has recently been working on pushing through the migration quota again, in a a coup-like manner”, he pointed out.

On the rules of international law, the Foreign Minister explained that if someone has to flee their home country, they can stay temporarily in the territory of the first safe country, not the second, not the third and not the tenth safe country.

“By definition, people who break into Hungary at the southern border cannot be refugees, because there is no war in Serbia, nobody’s life is in danger in Serbia,”

he reminded. He warned that anyone who crosses the Serbian-Hungarian border illegally and forcibly is infringing Hungarian sovereignty, violating our laws, and has no business in Hungary.
