From October 1, up to 300,000 cubic meters of natural gas may arrive in Hungary from Romania instead of the current 280,000 cubic meters per hour. The investment to make this possible has taken place in the framework of a cooperation between system operators in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia, reports Világgazdaság.
As a result of the joint optimization of the transmission system between Transgaz S.A. of Romania and FGSZ Zrt. of Hungary (natural gas suppliers), the technical capacity of the Csanádpalota border crossing point for the transport of natural gas from Romania to Hungary will increase from the current 280, to 300,000 cubic meters per hour from October 1, 2023.
The development is considered by the transmission system operators as an important first step of the Solidarity Ring initiative,
aiming to offer increased transmission capacities for alternative sources of natural gas coming from the south to the Central and Eastern European region through close cooperation and progressive development of the system operators in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia.
In 2021, the direction of gas transport in Hungary changed significantly compared to previous decades. The traditional Ukraine-Hungary supply route has been supplemented by supplies from Serbia,
reads the latest joint publication of the Energy Office and FGSZ on the subject. On October 1, there was no contracted Russian gas from Ukraine, but imports from Romania have increased significantly since the end of December, and gas has also been coming from Croatia.
