Erzsébet Forgács, a Master of Special Makeup Effects, has been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which this year will admit a total of 398 film professionals.
Erzsébet Forgács, who was awarded the Béla Balázs Prize last year and has worked on films such as The Door, Son of Saul, Sunset, and Being Julia, has been invited to join the Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Section.
According to the list on the Academy’s website, this year’s invitees include a number of recent Oscar winners, including the writer-director duo of Everything Everywhere All at Once, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the film’s producer Jonathan Wang and one of his actors, Ke Huy Quan, and the director of All Quiet on the Western Front, Edward Berger, and his cinematographer James Friend.
New members of the Academy’s music section include big names such as Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and David Byrne.
Eight filmmakers have been invited by several sections of the Academy and will have to choose which one to join.
According to an article in the film magazine Variety, 40 percent of those invited are women, 34 percent are from minority groups, and 52 percent are from the international film scene, representing 51 countries. If everyone accepts the invitation, the number of members of the film academy will rise to 10,817, of whom 9,375 will be eligible to vote in next year’s Oscars.
