The proportion of jobs for students has increased in relation to the total number of ads in the Profession.hu database. Based on the first five months of 2023, the most popular jobs among students are skilled labor, administration, assistant and clerical work, as well as manual, unskilled labor, Világgazdaság reports.
Last year, student job postings accounted for 7.2 percent of all job openings in the first five months of the year; by May of this year, that figure had risen to nearly 9 percent.
Companies are mostly looking for students for apprenticeships, with 18.9 percent of ads for student jobs in this category,
the second most common area being administration, assistant and clerical work with 12.5 percent, and the third most common category being manual, unskilled, and semi-skilled labor with 9.3 percent.
The number of applications varies, with May seeing a spike in activity from students, which can be explained by the seasonal increase in summer job opportunities. Year-on-year, there is an increase in the proportion of applications, with 1.87 percent of applications for student work in the January to May period last year, rising to 2.4 percent this year.
The most applications for student jobs were in the field of skilled labor, with 19.3 percent of applications for that category, followed by administration, assistant and clerical work with 16.3 percent, and marketing, media, and PR with 10.5 percent.
In 2022, half of the job vacancies advertised included a salary, and this year 55.7 percent of them did so. These show that the average wage for student jobs is HUF 1,763 (EUR 4.76) gross per hour
said Imre Tüzes, Product Development Director of Profession.hu. He added that the three highest paying fields are IT programming and development with an average gross hourly wage of HUF 2,038 (EUR 5.5), construction and real estate HUF 1,566 (EUR 4.23), and finance and accounting HUF 1,924 (EUR 5.2).
