“We stand by our Polish friends in the Council of Europe and reject unfounded attacks against Poland,” said Barna Pál Zsigmond, Fidesz MP in Strasbourg on Tuesday, following the second working day of the summer session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) – reported MTI.

The MP said that the adoption of a resolution by the lower house of the parliament of Poland (Sejm) on Thursday, rejecting the EU draft legislation on the relocation of migrants, had led to a “political attack on the democratically elected, conservative government of Poland.”

In his address to the meeting, he said that Poland and Hungary, which have conservative, Christian Democratic governments, are also discriminated against for ideological reasons in access to financial resources.

Poles are a proud, confident, and successful nation, able to go their own way without being constantly lectured by the West.

I reject the constant attacks against Poland and demand greater respect for the Polish electorate,” stressed Barna Pál Zsigmond, adding that the Hungarian and Polish opposition hiding behind the European institutions, were attacking their own country on ideological grounds without any basis.

The politician stressed that the European institutions must be impartial and unbiased. Instead, they are biased because they are aligned with liberal forces against the countries of Central and Eastern Europe that are governed by conservative governments. The attack on Poland is not about the rule of law in that country, not about freedom, but about the left’s desire to build socialism and interfere in the forthcoming elections.

He said it was not a coincidence that the attack on Poland came after Poland and Hungary voted against the migration and asylum pact agreed on by Brussels. The pact means that member states will have no say over who will live on their territory, he said. This, he stressed, is unacceptable for sovereign governments, and

Poland and Hungary cannot accept any binding resettlement quotas.

“Stop the witch-hunts against conservative governments in Europe, stop the unfounded attacks against the Polish conservative government, stay away from the Polish elections and let the Polish nation decide in the Polish votes,” added Zsigmond in his speech.
