Last year's drought was very harmful to the Hungarian lakes, but this year seems to have different prospects.Continue reading
Lake Balaton is relatively shallow, with an average depth of only 3.2 meters, so the hot weather can warm up the water faster than in deeper lakes, időkép.hu reported.
On Sunday morning, the water temperature in Balatonkenese was 20.9 degrees, in Tihany 21.9 , in Balatonlelle 22.1, in Balatonfenyves 21.6, and in Gyenesdiás 22 degrees.
Generally speaking, during periods of intense heat (when temperatures are above 30-35 degrees),
the water temperature of Lake Balaton can increase by 1-2 degrees per day.
Lake Balaton temperatures typically remain within the range of 20-28 degrees Celsius during the summer.
It is therefore estimated that
Lake Balaton could warm up to 25-26 degrees by mid-week.
The shallow water on the southern shore of Lake Balaton can warm up more easily, so it is not surprising that beaches with the warmest water temperature are also found in the south.
Of course, as with other lakes, the water temperature of Lake Balaton has a natural daily fluctuation, which depends on the amount of warming during the day. Currently, it is around 1 degree.
