Turkish Chief of Staff on an Official Visit to Hungary

On Sunday June 11, General Musa Avsever, the recently appointed Turkish Chief of General Staff, arrived in Hungary for a three-day official visit at the invitation of Hungarian Chief of General Staff Dr. Gábor Böröndi. The Turkish military leader’s first visit was to the Turkish military plot at the New Public Cemetery in Budapest, Honvédelem.hu reports.

General Musa Avsever was received with military honors in the cemetery, followed by the Turkish anthem and then of Hungary. The leader laid a wreath at the memorial column of the heroes of the 15th Turkish Army Corps, which fought under the command of the German Southern Army on the Galician front between 1916 and 1917. After that, he participated in a Turkish prayer with the delegation. During the visit, he personally laid flowers on the soldiers’ graves.

The Turkish Chief of General Staff was appointed last week by the re-elected President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Musa Avsever was previously the commander of the ground forces.

On Monday, he laid a wreath at Heroes’ Square in Budapest and held talks at the Ministry of Defense. Musa Avsever had a private meeting with Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the Defense Staff, followed by a plenary session between the Turkish and Hungarian delegations at the ministry.

During the talks, General Musa Avsever was briefed on the role of Hungary in the global and regional security environment from a defense policy perspective, as well as on the process of transformation and modernization of the Hungarian armed forces.
