The government will provide all resources for students, teachers, and researchers to continue international cooperation and exchange programs, the parliamentary state secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for regional development announced.
Addressing the annual Erasmus conference of the Tempus Public Foundation on Thursday, Csaba Latorcai stressed that the Erasmus program, launched in 1987, is one of the main achievements of European integration, and it is therefore important that the problems and misunderstandings that have arisen in connection with the Erasmus+ program in the field of higher education are resolved as soon as possible through negotiation, and in a way that is reassuring for all parties concerned.
The state secretary was referring to the fact that the European Commission excluded Hungarian universities managed by public trust foundations from the Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programs.
The government is ready to engage in reasonable and constructive discussions with the European Commission on Erasmus, as it has done so far, but there is a line along which we reject accusations of political pressure,”
Latorcai added.
The state secretary said that they were seeking an agreement and were confident that the issue would finally be settled. He added that until then, Hungarian teachers and students will not be affected by this dispute, and the government will provide all resources for students, teachers, and researchers to continue international cooperation and exchange programs.
