Fidesz politicians urge the European Commission not to give in to pressure from the Parliament over the EU budget.Continue reading
The European Parliament’s latest report is completely absurd, another attempt at blackmail and pressure against Hungary, according to Fidesz MEP Balázs Hidvéghi.
Speaking on public radio, the politician explained that the initiators of the report insist that Hungary should not be given any EU funds it is entitled to and that the country is not fit to hold the EU presidency in 2024. Hungary will take over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union in one year.
The proposal is being reviewed by members of several political groups, including Hungarian liberal MEP Katalin Cseh, he said.
Left-wing Hungarian MEPs have been attacking their own country for years,”
Hidvéghi argued. The debate on the report will be held next Wednesday and the vote will take place on Thursday.
According to Hidvéghi, parliament is in a hurry to attack Hungary because of the ongoing negotiations between the member state and the European Commission on EU funds, and the legislative amendments requested by the Commission. “Hungary is a predictable and good partner in this, but the EP does not want an agreement,” he added.
The Fidesz MEP also said that the world of Brussels today is characterized by a war psychosis, where everyone is talking about arms transfers and military involvement. Hungary represents something different, and its insistence on a pro-peace stance is only fueling the confrontation, he added.
