Spain’s socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called for snap elections after the center-right People’s Party (PP) won the municipal elections last weekend, and the right-wing, anti-immigration VOX also increased its support.
Over the past two years since leaving the European People’s Party (EPP), Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party has developed particularly good relations with VOX – a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR). VOX’s President, Santiago Abascal has visited Hungary several times and addressed the CPAC Hungary conservative conference too in 2022, as well as this year.
Abascal is always speaking highly of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who is quite popular among VOX supporters in Spain.
“The right-wing reconquista continues in Spain,” Viktor Orbán reacted to the results on Twitter, congratulating VOX.

“Spanish regional elections serve as an example: the European majority leans right, not left,” Balázs Orbán, the prime minister’s political director pointed out. ” Moderate conservatives must stop aligning their principles & actions with the progressive left and find allies among national conservatives,” he concluded.
