5G Networks Are Part of the Current Communications Challenges

Hungary is in the lead in 4G coverage worldwide, the Deputy Chairman of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) stressed on Thursday at a conference on the occasion of the World Telecommunications Day. András Lapsánszky also spoke about artificial intelligence, calling it a serious challenge.

Speaking at the 14th symposium organized by the Department of Telecommunications of the Széchenyi István University and NMHH, András Lapsánszky said that the authority is trying to “go ahead in time and see the future” in an innovative way, to see which technology will work and to adapt frequency management to it.

One stage of this was when the 3G network and equipment roll-out was proposed, he said, adding that this gave the opportunity to open the way for broader spectrum applications in fourth and fifth generation mobile networks and many next generation networks.

Lapsánszky stressed that

in the area of spectrum, fifth generation networks are a prominent element of the current communications challenges, as it is not yet known how successful this will be in the communications market.

The authority is therefore monitoring the process accordingly and adjusting its new spectrum plans and thinking accordingly.

The deputy chairman also spoke about the fact that in the competitive environment in telecoms, regulatory needs are emerging that did not exist before. Examples include consumer protection, digital services, and the emergence of giant platforms. These need to be regulated at the EU level, he emphasized. He also said that global cooperation in telecoms has a big role to play in the development of the sector.
