Hungary is a hair’s breadth away from full employment – the Ministry of Economic Development said in a statement. According to the National Employment Service, 235,429 people were registered as job seekers in April.

The previous record was set in April 2022, and the number is now down by 6400 in comparison. The monthly decrease was 8,000 people.

The Ministry of Economic Development reports that

the number of employed people in Hungary has increased by one million since 2010. According to official data from the Central Statistical Office, 4.7 million people are currently employed in Hungary and the number of registered job seekers has fallen by 400,000 since 2010, the ministry said.

The statement said the government prioritizes protecting families and jobs in the difficult economic situation caused by the war and will continue to strive for full employment. The biggest threats are high inflation and the threat of recession.

The statement also said that 18,000 applications have already been received for the corporate labor assistance and work experience assistance programs introduced in December, worth nearly 18 billion forints (48 million euros), which could help job seekers find work as quickly as possible. With their help, some 14,000 people have already been successfully placed.
