Pope Francis spoke about the role of dreams and goals, the importance of community, teamwork, service to others, silence and prayer to young people he met on Saturday afternoon at the Papp László Budapest Sports Arena.

“No one can take your place in the history of the Church and the world, no one can do what only you can do,” Pope Francis told the young people. Calling the young people friends of the Catholic Church, he said “you are all precious to Jesus and to me”. He asked them to help each other believe that they are loved, precious and destined for great things.

He also said that Jesus was not preaching, but making a way. He wants his disciples not to be schoolchildren repeating lessons, but young people who are free and on the move, companions of a God who listens to their needs and heeds their dreams.

Jesus does not destroy dreams, but corrects them. He insists on one thing, however: man does not become great by rising above others, but by condescending to others, not at the expense of others, but by serving others.
