Pope Francis arrives in Hungary today for a three-day apostolic visit. The Catholic head of church is expected to land at 10:00 a.m. at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc Airport.
Pope Francis will be received by President of Hungary Katalin Novák on the square in front of her residence, the Sándor Palace. After the ceremony, the head of the Church will pay a courtesy call on the head of state at the Sándor Palace and then meet Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Afterwards, a meeting will be held at the Carmelite Monastery with representatives of state authorities, social life and the diplomatic corps. The event will include speeches by Pope Francis and President of the Republic Katalin Novák.
In the afternoon, the Pope will meet with representatives of the Hungarian Catholic Church, bishops, priests, deacons, monks, novices and pastoral staff at St Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest. András Veres, President of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference, will welcome the Catholic Head of the Church, followed by testimonies. After Pope Francis’ address, the meeting, which is expected to last for an hour, will end with prayer and the blessing of the Holy Father.
Pope Francis’ apostolic journey from 28-30 April 2023 and all public events related to his visit will be covered by almost all public media channels. A total of six live broadcasts – two on Friday, Saturday and Sunday – will be shown and heard on the Duna TV channel and Kossuth Radio.
