On the proposal of the Minister of National Defence, President of the Republic Katalin Novák on Thursday dismissed Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, Chief of the Defence Staff, from his post with immediate effect from 27 April, writes Magyar Nemzet.
The Minister of Defence has proposed Lieutenant General Gábor Böröndi, head of the Hungarian Defence Forces’ Military Representative Office to NATO and the EU in Brussels, to take over the post. According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, Lt-Gen Gábor Böröndi is the Hungarian general with the broadest command and military leadership background, the broadest experience in NATO theater of operations, and a former deputy chief of staff. He graduated from the US and NATO Staff Colleges and is currently Head of Hungary’s Military Representation in Brussels to NATO and the EU.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defence underlined that Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi has made significant contributions to the acceleration and modernization of military training and has taken significant steps to increase the combat capabilities of the Hungarian Defense Forces. Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi will continue to serve his country in other areas, they wrote. According to the ministry, the new chief of general staff’s priority task, in addition to the continuation of the organizational culture change initiated so far, is to continue the development of a modern, effective Hungarian Defense Forces capable of demonstrating serious deterrence.
