The European Union must clearly reject demands coming from Ukraine for sanctions against EU member Hungary, according to Harald Vilimsky, head of the right-wing Austrian Freedom Party’s (FPÖ) delegation to the European Parliament.
The politician of Austria’s most popular party reacted to the fact that the Ukrainian president’s economic advisor, Oleg Ustenko, demanded in an interview the disbursement of more EU funds to Hungary to be suspended, because Hungary has concluded a gas supply agreement with Russia’s Gazprom.
Hungary is working on continuing to supply its population with urgently needed energy. To punish the EU country for this would be a completely excessive reaction,”
he stressed. Vilimsky noted that Hungary gets 80 to 85 percent of its natural gas and 80 percent of its crude oil imports from Russia.
“Ukraine has so far received aid amounting to 62 billion euros from the EU. The fact that it is now trying to divide the Union and also to stir up Brussels against a member state is unacceptable,” Vilimsky stressed.
