Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó discussed bilateral cooperation, development of transport relations, and natural gas supplies in Romania on Tuesday.
In the future, Romania could be considered not only as a transit route but also as a country of origin for Hungarian natural gas supplies, and Hungary is interested in a decision on the exploitation of the Black Sea fields as soon as possible, Szijjártó said in the Romanian capital.
On the one hand, Romania will be needed as a transit country to attract Azerbaijani resources, he said. The basis for the planned annual import of two billion cubic meters of natural gas is given as the capacity of the Hungarian-Romanian interconnection has been expanded to 2.5 billion cubic meters, he pointed out. On the other hand, Bucharest has made a decision to connect future Black Sea production sites to their distribution center, and there is already a pipeline from there to our country, he added.
The minister said that the governmental role of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ/UDMR) has contributed to the development of Hungarian-Romanian cooperation in several areas. He expressed his pleasure that representatives of the Romanian leadership spoke of the party and its politicians “in a very positive and appreciative way.”

In a joint press statement with Romanian Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Sorin Mihai Grindeanu, Szijjártó said that an agreement had been reached to open the fourth expressway link between Hungary and Romania in 2030.
Szijjártó said that the continuous development of cooperation between Hungary and Romania is a priority strategic interest, both because of the Hungarian minority and because of expanding economic relations.
