The presence of churches in the social field has doubled since 2010, State Secretary Miklós Soltész said at an event in southwest Hungary. He also spoke about the help provided to refugees from Ukraine.
The state secretary for church and minority relations said that 13 years ago, churches carried out around 15 percent of tasks in the social and child protection field, while today the figure is around 30 percent.
Miklós Soltész also spoke about the activities of the Hungarian Baptist Aid for refugees who fled to Hungary because of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
The charity helps those in need in Hungary, on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border and in Ukraine with food, shelter, kind words and love,”
he said.
He added that “to no avail had Ukrainian politicians berated us with accusations, saying that Hungarians do not like Ukrainians, and that we are not willing to help, the refugees who fled to us found that the Hungarian people and the churches’ charity services turned to them with love and care”.
