Fidesz MEP Balázs Hidvéghi defended Poland at a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) on Thursday.
The MEP objected to the fact that the committee initiated a debate on the situation of the Polish judiciary, but invited only one of the parties, the European Commission, to the debate. He said that this did not even respect the most basic rules of the debate.
According to Balázs Hidvéghi, the reason for this is that
the committee is not interested in a balanced debate, and never has been”.
He said that “what the left here likes to do is to listen to their own narrative, and only their own narrative, and not to other opinions”. On his social media page, he called it outrageous that left-wing politicians meet weekly and “in great unison condemn Poland”. All this without listening to the Polish government’s position.
