The Hungarian Prison Service Headquarters (BvOP) held a professional meeting with the consuls accredited to Hungary to discuss the increasing number of foreign prisoners, most of them human smugglers, MTI reports.

The detention of human smugglers, most of whom are foreigners, and especially the language difficulties, is an additional challenge for the prison service. The prison service, therefore, maintains an active working relationship with the diplomatic corps.
Currently, there are more than 2,500 smugglers in domestic prisons, who are nationals of 73 countries.
Some of them are from neighboring countries such as Romania, Serbia, Ukraine, or Bulgaria, others are from more distant countries in Asia and Africa such as Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Iran, Yemen, Jordan, Iraq, or Tunisia, but there are also smugglers of Cuban, Dominican, Brazilian, and Vietnamese origin.
This meeting was attended by representatives from 58 countries.
