According to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s state of the nation speech last week, it has been confirmed that the new bridge over the Danube at Mohács in southwest Hungary will be built, Világgazdaság reports.
The economic news portal cited the prime minister’s speech:
We are retaining our plan for the eastern part of our country to catch up with the rest. It is time to finally unite Hunnia and Pannonia – both economically and in terms of living standards. This is why we are building bridges on the Danube, why the one at Paks will be completed, and why the one at Mohács will soon be started.”
According to Világgazdaság, the issue of the new bridge has been on the agenda for decades, and the prime minister has said that it will definitely be built, although it is not yet clear when and from what resources.
According to the website of the design company, Speciálterv, the plan is for a 750-meter-long, 18,000-square-meter, triple-span, steel-framed bridge with 2×2 lanes. Gábor Pávkovics, the mayor of Mohács, said that if everything goes according to plan, the bridge could be completed by 2026.
According to the portal, the new bridge would not only make the everyday life of the local population easier but would also be of particular importance in the national road network: it would create a link between main road 51 and the M6 motorway.
