Veszprém Welcomes Artists from Twenty-Nine Cities

Twenty-nine cities from twenty-five countries will present themselves in Veszprém and the Lake Balaton region in a year-long series of all-arts events, part of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture program.

The event is called Interurbán, with 150 programs presenting a slice of culture from each of the participating cities in two-week rotations. The 50-week-long series opened a few weeks ago with the debut of Kaunas in Lithuania, which was named the European Capital of Culture last year.

Ten cities that are part of the UNESCO Cities of Music network, such as Seville and Kingston, will also introduce themselves. Veszprém was the only Hungarian city to win the UNESCO City of Music title in 2019.

The city of London in Canada will also be introduced. It is the birthplace of Sam Maggs, author of several bestsellers, comic books, and video games, who also attended the press conference. The program also features the folk-pop band The Pairs from London, Canada.

In March, Timisoara, which also holds the title of European Capital of Culture this year, will make its debut, followed by Katowice, Liverpool, Bologna, and Novi Sad.
