Technological modernization is taking place in Hungarian agriculture, as evidenced by the fact that sales of agricultural machinery in Hungary have been growing dynamically for years, the Minister of Agriculture said at the opening of the 41st AGROmashEXPO International Agriculture and Agricultural Machinery Exhibition on Wednesday in Budapest.
István Nagy pointed out that in 2021, the turnover of agricultural machinery and parts exceeded HUF 300 billion (EUR 772 million). The growth continued in 2022, with farmers spending HUF 269 billion (EUR 692 million) on new agricultural machinery and equipment alone in the first nine months of the year.
He also referred to the government decisions that will be of great help to Hungarian farmers in 2023. He cited as examples the possibility of a credit moratorium exclusively for agriculture, the more than HUF 320 billion (EUR 823 million) in income support for agriculture paid out in the last three months of 2022, and the possibility of the payment of HUF 1,400 billion (EUR 3.6 billion) in agricultural and rural development support planned for this year.
The AGROmashEXPO International Agriculture and Agricultural Machinery Exhibition is Hungary’s largest agricultural machinery event, with almost 300 exhibitors in seven pavilions this year. The four-day exhibition is open to visitors from January 25-28.
The Minister recalled that last November, the European Commission adopted Hungary’s strategic plan for the Common Agricultural Policy, which is a historic opportunity for the Hungarian countryside and the whole agricultural sector.
EU funds, together with an outstanding national budget contribution of 80 percent, will provide more help than ever to farmers and food processors.
He added that priority support for the energy development of agricultural enterprises will continue to be maintained. The aim is to increase and improve the energy self-sufficiency of farms, and to promote the use of renewable energy sources. “To remain competitive in the medium and long term, even in the current exceptional circumstances, it is essential to move forward and modernize the sector,” emphasized Nagy at the show.
