According to a recent survey by the Századvég Foundation, 74 percent of Hungarians oppose the withholding of EU funds.
The European Commission has made Hungary’s access to the EU funds the country is entitled to conditional on the fulfillment of 17 conditions, and in December 2022, the Brussels body adopted Hungary’s recovery plan and signed the partnership agreement, Századvég Foundation noted in a statement.
They pointed out that the actual disbursement of a significant share of the funds in question is, however, conditional on the completion of 27 “super milestones,” meaning that Hungary has not yet received part of the EU funds.
According to Századvég’s poll, nearly three-quarters of Hungarians (74 percent) oppose the withholding of EU funds that the country is rightfully entitled to.
Sixty percent of Hungarians feel that Brussels is not really seeking to reach an agreement or compromise on these funds, but is trying to set an example by punishing Hungary.
Almost two-thirds of Hungarians (64 percent) say that there are double standards in the European Union towards Hungary and other member states.
