The Hungarian Sports Journalists’ Association (MSÚSZ) organized their 65th Athlete of the Year Gala at the Budapest Opera House on Monday to award the most outstanding athletes of the year.
The male athlete of the year is swimmer Kristóf Milák, and the female athlete of the year is Luca Kozák, an athlete specializing in sprint hurdles.
The team of the year in traditional team sports is the men’s national football team, whose coach, Marco Rossi was voted the coach of the year.
The team of the year in individual sports team competition is the women’s saber team.
The male athlete of the year with a disability is para canoeist Péter Pál Kiss.
The female athlete of the year with a disability is para swimmer Bianka Pap.
The team of the year with a disability is the women’s wheelchair fencing team.
The sports moment of the year was Kristoffer Zachariassen’s goal against AS Monaco in the Europa League, which helped FTC to qualify for the group stage.
Legendary Italian football manager and trainer (AC Milan, Real Madrid) Fabio Capello also attended the gala. He told Hungarian public sports channel M4 that with Marco Rossi, Hungarian football has reached another level. According to him, the successes of the Hungarian national team can attract more and more young people, more and more people will believe in football, and all this can contribute to the further development of the sport.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received Fabio Capello in his office earlier on Monday.
The achievements of Hungarian athletes have been recognized by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), too. Swimmer Kristóf Milák was ranked fifth, and canoer Bálint Kopasz was ranked eighth in the category of AIPS Best Male Athlete of 2022.
